The iPad would make a great Linux tablet. Relatively high performance processor, nice screen and a ton of them out there. If Apple just unlocked the bootloader, there would be plenty of motivation to develop a good linux port
- SoftTalker 3y agoBut Apple doesn’t make any money from that
- walterbell 3y agoMore than a few OSS hackers eventually want some devices that "just work", especially in the stage of their career where they have more money than time. This is Apple's primary value proposition. Apple went out of their way to enable non-Apple OSes on Apple Silicon Macbooks. They make money when someone buys a Macbook to run native or virtualized Linux.
- catboybotnet 3y agoWhich is why they tend to not support really anything in terms of users truly owning their devices. Buy a new one, toss that old one into the landfill! And again! And again...
