Letter to House Committee Claims Trump Obtained Documents by Accident [pdf]
- gsibble 3y agoOne can only imagine this will be a key part of his defense at trial.
- chiefalchemist 3y agoThe only thing I'm trying to imagine is how many times I'm going to have to recharge my bullshit detector. The whole thing reeks - still - of political theatre. Yes, no one is above the law. If only the law were applied evenly all the time. But here we go again, and WTP served less more than ever.
- Timon3 3y agoDo you have examples of other high ranking politicians openly admitting to sharing classified information? If so, they should go to jail.
- chiefalchemist 3y agoYou missed the point completely, and thus the circus of distractions continue. I bet you never got the sad irony of Liz Cheney doing her thing while her father freely walked the streets waving...blood still on his hands...and no one caring. At all.
- Timon3 3y agoI might have, please help me clear it up if you don't mind. You and I both do not like laws being applied unevenly. If you or I were to share classified secrets, we'd go to jail. Donald Trump shared classified secrets, and he will (hopefully) go to jail. In my eyes, this makes the law more evenly applied, as he is getting the same sentence other people would get. Where am I wrong?
- gsibble 3y agoWho did he share secrets with? He isn't charged with that.
- Timon3 3y agoPlease read the PDF with the charges, introduction, point 6. Two examples of him sharing secrets with people who didn't have the clearance.
- deeg 3y agoAccording to reports there is audio of Trump showing classified documents to someone while acknowledging that they shouldn't see them AND admitting that he should have declassified them while president.
- chiefalchemist 3y agoYou have no sense that all this - for the last X yrs - has been political? Really? That the wonky (at best) status quo is contorting to maintain its authority? Yeah, we can do better than DJT. That said, in what type of world does a "product" such as Don get the traction he has? Focusing on Don doesn't fix the shit show that paved the road to his rise. Eliminating Don isn't a fix. Not even close. To believe otherwise is simply naive. Worse, it perpetuates a mindset that perpetuates the status quo. A status quo that has been able to normalize the acceptance of its mediocrity. Instead of siding with them, why not ask them how they've allow this embarrassing shit show to thive as it has.
- Timon3 3y agoI am not interested in "eliminating Don as a fix" as you put it. I am interested in the equal rule of law. Donald Trump broke a number of laws, and he should receive the same sentence that other people would receive. Your reply doesn't address this in any way. Care to try again?
- gsibble 3y ago"hen President Trump left office, there was little time to prepare for the outgoing transition from the presidency. Unlike his three predecessors, each of whom had over four years to prepare for their departure upon completion of their second term, President Trump had a much shorter time to wind up his administration. White House staffers and General Service Administration (“GSA”) employees quickly packed everything into boxes and shipped them to Florida. This was a stark change from the standard preparations made by GSA and National Archives and Records Administration (“NARA”) for prior administrations."
- quantified 3y agoRegardless, if DJT wins in 2024, US allies will probably curtail intelligence sharing. I can only imagine their reactions to this indictment.
- deeg 3y agoHow he acquired the documents has no bearing on the indictments. He is being charged with obstructing justice while refusing to return them.
- cldellow 3y agoAs a meta point, it's interesting that 4 lawyers signed this letter: - Timothy Parlatore, a criminal defense lawyer - John Rowley, a former federal prosecutor, and now a criminal defense lawyer - Jim Trusty, a former federal prosecutor, and now a criminal defense lawyer - Lindsey Halligan, an insurance claims litigator All except Lindsey have since resigned from Trump's legal team.
