Ask HN: How can I start a new factory in USA?
I would like to manufacture something very profitable in America, such as electric cars, e-scooters, spaceships, artificial general intelligence, Zeppelin airships, soap factory, drug factory, build tunnels between USA and and Europe, make peace between USA and Russia, get an American wife etc. I am currently in Norway.
- not_your_vase 3y agoAs simple as 1-2-3( and 4) 1. Hop over to the US. 2. Build your russian peace factory 3. ??? 4. Profit!
- jaclaz 3y agoJFYI, tunnels are not usually built in factories, so you may want to invert yours and call them "tunnels between Europe and USA" and start digging on your side, without moving to the USA.

- not_your_vase 3y ago> tunnels are not usually built in factories And this is why it is such a great business for corrupt people. Actually it is cleaner, faster, cheaper and more sustainable to pre-drill a hole in a factory, and then transport it to its final location. Of course there are some organizations who would protest against this technology by any means necessary...
- jaclaz 3y agoThe issue with that approach is AFAIK with the costs (and environmental impact) of the transport. While the pre-drilled holes tend to weight little, the "doughnut" (usually made in reinforced concrete) around them is really heavy, and then there is the problem of size, you cannot usually transport anything wider than 2.50 or 3.00 meters, but you have also limits in height (bridges cross the route are a problem) so you cannot physically transport more than (maybe) a 1/4 of a pre-drilled hole (with its outer concrete shell) with one truck.
- not_your_vase 3y agoDonut? That's exactly the anti-tunnel-factory propaganda that I'm talking about. Only drill and transport the hole. The donut part is already in place, without the hole. No need to transport it anywhere. (JFTR: this is a shitpost thread that got through. And it deserves responses in kind :) )
- rurban 3y agoBuy (or just claim) the land, build your factory, start producing.
