If you've been following John Carmack, one constant theme in his posts while still working there was his dissatisfaction with the underlying stack (Os+Hw) and not pushing the envelope hard enough. Apple has a huge advantage with its vertical integration and nearly complete control of the entire stack. Android being a janky/buggy/glitchy mess is the icing on the cake.
