Is the professional photography industry dying? Serious question.
- mikece 3y agoNo, it's getting smaller. Cameras on smartphones completely killed the point-and-shoot camera market; DSLR/interchanngeable lens cameras have seen less demand from the population at large (because smartphone cameras and computational photography has gotten that good) leaving only professional photographers, serious amateurs, hobbyist photographers going after "real" cameras. All of that said, Zeiss was never making lenses for the mass market so while it's sad to see them go it's not a surprise. If Leica (the other major German lens maker) exits photography it will be a much more significant event.
