Who is 'we' in this? If 'we' is U.S. citizen I think it's something along the lines of the typical trope 'if I don't have anything to hide then I don't have anything to worry about' with the unspoken piece of the formula being '...so I should censor myself to ensure...' etc.
- actionfromafar 3y ago"We need to ensure the TLA is run by people sharing our values, so they will only spy, frame and kill our enemies in the culture war." (Too dark?)
- nunobrito 3y agoOnly criminals have something to hide, right? I love that saying. But if it would be true, then why do people lock their bathroom doors?
- fsflover 3y agoThis is completely missing the point of why one needs privacy. Lack of it harms journalism and activism, making the government too powerful and not accountable. If only activists and journalists will try to have the privacy, it will be much easier to target them. Everyone should have privacy to protect them. It’s sort of like freedom of speech is necessary not just for journalists, but for everyone, even if you have nothing to say.
- nunobrito 3y agoIt was sarcasm, friend. Apologies if it seemed otherwise. I'm on the side of privacy, decentralization and offline technology that is free from modern shackles.
