this is hilarious ... because it was almost obvious all along but voicing it had you labelled a conspiracy nut.
this was never plausibly on behalf of russia and no country would do sth like that without checking back with the states - whose president btw basically just announced something like that would happen on television.
sometimes what you need isn't intel but common sense and some unbiased knowledge of contemporary politics and history.
- jakeinspace 3y agotbh I had my money on Poland after the first few days. Their motive seemed even stronger to me than the Ukrainian one.
- 2-718-281-828 3y agowell, i think it's still unknown how the vessel got into the baltic sea. the sea route is very long ... or they just chartered something suitable in poland and that then probably on sufferance by poland. while i agree that poland was also on the table as the primary actor that would have been a bit too bold of a political move for them to make.
- lamontcg 3y agoI could believe that a CIA advisor helped the Ukrainians design the plan and that Poland carefully looked the other way and didn't ask any questions.
- lamontcg 3y agoYeah, I'm having a big "I told you so" moment right about now. Ukraine had just about nothing to lose and everything to gain from shutting off the EU from buying gas from their enemy.
- actionfromafar 3y agoUkraine would be playing a dangerous game though. If caught, especially if caught earlier, well, the optics would have been bad. Very bad.
- actionfromafar 3y agoSure, but is it so crazy to think a) it’s a bit fancy for Ukraine to do it, unnoticed tok b) imagine if you were Putin and wanted any potential throne successor let go of the idea they would have the pipelines to barter with Germany? It’s not a completely outlandish thought, is it?
- lamontcg 3y ago> a) it’s a bit fancy for Ukraine to do it, unnoticed tok it isn't that difficult of a leap to see how it got done if you have any experience with technical diving. > b) imagine if you were Putin and wanted any potential throne successor let go of the idea they would have the pipelines to barter with Germany? It’s not a completely outlandish thought, is it? i can't even understand this line of thought enough to form a response. if that's the best you can come up with for russia's motives then i'm 100% certain they didn't do it.
- actionfromafar 3y agoBurning bridges is outlandish? I’m not saying this is what happened. But unprecedented, no. In fact, I’m proud my early reaction to the explosions was confusion. I did put a solid “maybe” on either the US or Russia, along with a “possibly” for Ukraine. Still not sure, but Ukraine is getting an increasing probability in my mind.
