So, what? They spent days getting to this area to lay down in a hole and die? Somebody carried their body through crazy difficult caves and just dumped them (and they happened to end up in holes)? Sometimes the quest for the smoking gun exceeds the normal bounds of credulity, in a way similar to the outrageous claims of eccentrics (the normal extreme). A very reasonable conclusion is that they were buried carefully in a special place, with the expenditure of much care (carrying light for the trip etc).
