Stop Serving the Feedback Sandwich
- chiefalchemist 3y ago> Giving a compliment sandwich might make the giver feel good, but it doesn’t help the receiver. If cliche passive aggressive attempted manipulation of someone else makes you feel good, I for one don't want to hear from you. That aside, my experience is that when you're direct and honest most people use that against you as a shield. Instead of responding to what you said they deflect and take issue with how you said it. Immediately the conversation goes off topic. That what gets shoved into a corner and you lose because of the how. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. The fact is, most people would prefer to be coddled. Most teams are based on group thinking, not truth seeking. Kindness that compromises honesty and truth is no kindness at all. Yet that's the expected social norm, at least in most of the US. It's exhausting working with so many disingenuous people.
