>The explosion flooded villages along the banks of the
Dnieper River, killing thousands of civilians and military
personnel from both sides of the conflict. After taking
over the area, the Germans partially rebuilt the dam. Two
years later, as Soviet forces were pushing them out of
Ukraine, Nazi troops blew it up for a second time. At the
end of the war, the Soviets rebuilt the dam.
- pestatije 3y agodammed dam! should consider and embankment dam [2] next time they rebuild it [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embankment_dam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embankment_dam
- downvotetruth 3y agoMore sense to put the Crimean canal source further up river (Dnipro Dam) to get more gravity rather than pump feed. Also, too little of an elevation drop that resulted in a rather large amount of land flooded for the Kakhovka reservoir that could be seen as legacy of Soviet dam building fervor.
- pestatije 3y agono doubt modern times allow for better technical alternatives...im all for ukranians to manage their land as best as they wish
