What do you get for being a moderator on Stack overflow? Felling that you are helping the community?

Most "moderators" are just people who follow some tags, answer regularly, vote to close shit questions etc. A few spend a lot of time on SO, but most moderators don't. If you work with foobar and want to know what problems people actually have with foobar, what they think its features are, how they misunderstand, all that sort of thing, then following the right tags and answering will get you that. You get to decide when to answer, how much time to spend, etc. If you have problems with stooopid coworkers and want to improve the way you communicate with them, SO is a fine place to hone your patience, particularly if you use a pseudonym. If you want someone to think you've deep expertise in some niche and should be hired for $$$/hour, pointing them to a row of SO answers on that niche tag is one way. Of course only some of this applies to you.

By the way I love the word stooopid. Has such a Muppets Swedish Chef ring to it.

Do use a pseudonym if you're going to call any of your past/present coworkers muppets, particularly if the name fits ;)
