The Slow Decline of Highly Motivated Developers
- 5350-uiop-1130 3y agoAfter years of doing the same thing it's normal to be unmotivated. "unmotivated" is like gaslighting or misdirection from the misalignment between your goals and theirs (stagnation). Solution 99% of time is to try and move on.
- nunuvit 3y ago> The worse [sic] thing you can do to a person self-driven, motivated person, who, additionally, was hired because of that, is to reject their initiatives. I think a lot of hiring managers don't understand how this can be a bait-and-switch. If you say the job requires programming, they expect to get programming experience. If you say the programming job requires C++, they expect to get C++ experience. If you say the job requires initiative, they expect to get initiative experience. Fail to deliver on those, and it's not the same job anymore. Not just a bad version of the job. A completely different job.
- datavirtue 3y agoAlmost everyone I have ever worked with was unmotivated. It stems from the adversarial employer/employee relationship and top down "innovation" where managers have ideas and then force them on their subordinates. Pure taylorism rot.
