A 27-inch display in a briefcase
- rektide 3y agoNo brightness info. Color me skeptical about all these people happily watching movies in the park
- ofrzeta 3y agoWhat's the point of watching a movie on a screen in a park, anyway?
- rektide 3y agoI try to do a lot of things from parks & I coffee shops. To some people, but the inclination to use Third Spaces for lots of things is big. I am quite well setup for at home, suffer for nothing, and I find it incredibly fun and engaging to get out of my home and do even introverted activities somewhere else. Little park watching parties are definitely a thing around here. Usually they are on extremely marginal cheap ass projectors though.
- benatkin 3y agoWait till you hear about the Apple Vision Pro! Can simulate a 100" display and it's smaller. This is cool for those who may watch something as a group though. If the audio is solid.
- prepend 3y agoOculus has had virtual screens for a while. It was neat at first, but I never used it because it’s just not as comfortable as a screen on a wall. It’s the “one less thing” simplicity that makes me not want to use it for watching. In group settings it becomes ludicrous to have everyone put on their goggles and sync up. I think this will work if people are on airplanes or living in “the stacks” where there is really just no room.
- j45 3y agoHoping the resolution is useable for more than large buttons on an iPad. Looks amazing.
- smodo 3y agoThis can’t be more than marketing for their display division. Maybe you would take this into a clients office for a demo instead of a projector? Maybe you really liked back when you had that trolly with the projector and laptop bags stacked on top of each other? It was fun to lug that around, right? I haven’t seen a boardroom without a huge screen and all kinds of input options for years. I also notice that people happily watch IMAX stuff on their phones.
- eternityforest 3y agoIf the cost was similar this would be the obvious choice of display just for the ability to put it away without risking damage or needing to disassemble. It would be ok for a bedroom TV, because people might have dressers that might have enough space to accommodate it. It would be great for trade show like environments, if you want something bigger than a tablet on a stand (Although a tablet on a stand is probably good enough and way more convenient...). Maybe it would have been better if it was a 17 inch instead of 27, so it could fit on a desk and be a second monitor better.
- m463 3y agoIf you work remote, being able to travel is a big deal. But it's hard to set up somewhere with a decent setup. I can see this being part of a really usable remote work setup.
- johnea 3y agoWhy would they bother to use a 1080p display? If it was 4K, I'd consider it as a travel work monitor...
