But where is the tutorial ? There are links to the author's books from MIT and the same books freely available in PDF format which is nice, but there is no tutorial on that page.
- sloum 3y agoAgreed. I tried to dig around a bit in the pdf (though I am admittedly distracted at the moment) and it looked like a tree walk interpreter being built. At least at first. There were some sections involving x86 assembly, so it may eventually compile down to that architecture in later segments? If anyone knows more about the style of copmiler(s) that this covers I would be interested in knowing. If I find the time to dig through the book a bit more and find out I'll update here.
- cgkou 3y agoFrom page xiii of the book: "The compiler targets x86 assembly language (Intel 2015),..."
- Jtsummers 3y agoLooks like an in-person (or otherwise live, perhaps video) tutorial session. Note that it talks about being a half-day tutorial. Odd phrasing if it's not meant to be live. This would be support material sent out to the students participating at the start or beforehand so they can prep their systems to participate.
- matt_d 3y agoFWIW, https://pldi23.sigplan.org/details/pldi-2023-tutorials/8/Teaching-and-Learning-Compilers-Incrementally https://pldi23.sigplan.org/details/pldi-2023-tutorials/8/Tea... You should be able to work on the repository code (https://github.com/IUCompilerCourse/python-student-support-code https://github.com/IUCompilerCourse/python-student-support-c... / https://github.com/IUCompilerCourse/public-student-support-code https://github.com/IUCompilerCourse/public-student-support-c...) and test your implementation (although will need to rely on the books for guidance).
- AlexeyBrin 3y agoThanks, any idea if the tutorial will be recorded and made available later or is it just for the participants ?
- matt_d 3y agoI know that SIGPLAN makes the regular talks from PLDI available at https://www.youtube.com/@acmsigplan https://www.youtube.com/@acmsigplan although this doesn't always include tutorials (I can see there are some, but most are missing)
