Good question. What do driverless cars add to our City (SF)?
- rmason 3y agoThe guy asking the question is a San Francisco supervisor which is like a city councilman. I am reminded of the following quote by Paul Krugman in 1998, "In 2005 or so, it will become clear that the Internet's impact on the economy has been no greater than the FAX machine's." Pretty certain this tweet will age about as well
- Zigurd 3y agoIn general I'll take the urbanist and AV skeptic side, but here is a telling quote: "If you want to make things better, invest in transit and bike/ped infrastructure to reduce ALL car usage" These are not exclusive. The opposite, really. AVs won't mind fewer lanes in order to accomodate protected cycling lanes. AVs should hurt vastly fewer pedestrians and cyclists. An all-AV world should be a paradise for cyclists. AV bus lines could surge capacity without being bound by driver availability and making drives do split shifts.
