Somewhat important look into the industry & whats afoot. Cautioun tbough, can be even handed, but also let's through a significant sprinkling of personal affinities the author seemingly has too (in favor of the Tech Right, for example a very sharp rejection of anyone at Universities).
I am a bit confused by the early track shift. The article starts by talking about TESCREAL:
> coined the term TESCREAL, which stands for Transhumanism, Extropianism, Singularitarianism, Cosmism, Rationalism, Effective Altruism, and Longtermism
But quickly shifts to talking about the the "Tech Right"? There's definitely some significant overlap here, some places more than others. But it seems to me there's huge freedom in how a lot of these varied TESCREAL systems can be followed/practiced/believed.
That there are more authoritarian & more democratic versions of socialism, which believe/disbelieve in the rest of humanity, which horde or share power, seems a near parallel, a frame we could use here to see broader possibility.
At it's best, the article does describes a seemingly well known but underrecorded & very critical culture of the world, spawned from tech, & one that already has clawed out a massively disproportionate share of human power.
Side question, do people readily associate Extropianism with the belief that we'll live forever? Personally this is new to me, took me by surprise, and I say this as someone who thought I knew & kind of respected what I saw as the values: a belief in iterative ongoing improvement of life & living.
