Stable Diffusion’s Founder Emad Has a History of Exaggeration
- kernelsanderz 3y agoStability AI became a $1 billion company with the help of a viral AI text-to-image generator and — per interviews with more than 30 people — some misleading claims from founder Emad Mostaque
- brucethemoose2 3y agoStablility AI has done squat for the locally hosted SD community. If I were a VC, I wouldn't touch these guys with a 10 foot pole, even if SDXL ends up being good.
- wmf 3y agoI think you have that backwards. VCs love SaaS and hate local software.
- brucethemoose2 3y agoBut I dont think many are using SAI's cloud service. Its... Not, that great, maybe barring SDXL which is very new, and they have no advantage over random hosts.
- wmf 3y agoThat would certainly explain why Stability is having trouble raising money.
- JimtheCoder 3y agoI try to be as fair and as unbiased as possible, but whenever I hear Emad speak in an interview, my BS meter goes right to 100.
- oretoz 3y agoExactly same for me too. I watched his interview with Aarthi and Sriram of a16z yesterday and the more I tried to understand him, more he seemed like not just a BS peddler but deluded as well. May be it is just the two of us?
- 6gvONxR4sf7o 3y agoFrom the title, i thought this would be a lot less egregious. If that’s what passes as exaggeration, then what passes as just lying?
- gen220 3y agoWhat an incredible story – unfortunately for their investors, it reflects very poorly on them. It reads like there were quite a few prima facie yellow/orange flags that merited deeper due diligence.
- trextrex 3y agoEmad's response here for balance: https://emad.posthaven.com/on-setting-the-record-straight https://emad.posthaven.com/on-setting-the-record-straight Personally, most of the issues seem superficial compared to, for example, Elon's pathological lying.
