From Elon Musk to Jamie Dimon: Corporate America Still Loves China
- chiefalchemist 3y ago> The bottom line: Even Dimon has resigned himself to the fact that "over time there’ll be less trade.” The CEOs will try to rescue what they can, but the politicians are setting the rules. Less trade, not not no trade. As for the politics, the US voters have finally come to realize how poorly they fared from so much being off-shored. As as result it's currently politically correct for US politicians to speak and act in ways that are far less pro-China. Corporate America marches on to profit pumping beat while it's political sock puppets play the bad cop to help subdue the growing discontent of the masses. No news here. Side note: Remember when Trump pushed back against China and he was ridiculed and then some? Yeah, no one else remembers that either. And yet here we are.
- brucethemoose2 3y agoI hate to start a political squable on HN, but I guess I can't help myself... Trump and his administration had some good, forward thinking policy ideas, which were indeed needlessly hammered by zealous media... pushing back against China is one example. But this glosses over just how ham fisted, poorly executed, and poorly communicated they largely were (as was the case with their China policy actions). Also > ...poorly they fared from so much being off-shored Again this is a huge generalization. Clearly too much was offshored and too many eggs were put in one basket, but an extreme restriction of free trade is not going to be fun either.
- Zigurd 3y agoBroken clock Trump. But what's the other time he was right?
- chiefalchemist 3y agoNot a fan of DT *at all* but...the border w/ Mexico comes to mind. That's still a cluster fuck.
