What's disappointing is that these are 2 individuals who are in peak physical form, with the help of the best nutritionists and trainers in the world and could be playing until they are 45 at very high levels, however they simply refuse to run, both in their clubs and National Teams.
It's not that they physically can't, the problem is that they don't want to do it anymore, I honestly believe it's psychological not physical and also they see it as a matter of respect . In football the players who run the least gets to have the most fun and they are also the most respected in the team, essentially the other 9 do the dirty work for him.
Argentina won the World Cup in Qatar with Messi basically running 5-6km per game which is nothing compared to the wings which can wind up with 13-14km run each game. Even in the Extra Time with 5mins left when France was attacking to equalize he'd basically walk instead of tracing back to protect the lead.
Sad that they'd both end up in Saudi Arabia still relatively young while they could have stayed in Europe for 5-10 years more, but the mental tank emptied much earlier than the physical one.
