It is immediately obvious that the refueling solution is the best one because you neither need the vast resources of battery swapping, nor long recharge times.

- phs318u 3y ago"Best" depends what attribute your optimising. For me, "best" is being entirely independent of an ongoing operational cost which I can't control. I'm covering my entire roof in solar panels and buying the biggest battery I can afford. Being able to "fuel" my vehicle without ongoing third-party involvement, and with an absolute minimum of moving parts (reducing servicing costs), is important. I do take the point that's not the attribute most people are optimising for.
- _hypx 3y agoYou could do the same thing with hydrogen and make your own fuel. It is fully possible and is being ignored out of battery hype.
- maximus-decimus 3y agoIf it's so great, why do they have so few refuelling stations? On the entire Canadian East Coast, there is a total of 2 hydrogen fueling stations, one in Quebec city (Quebec province's) and one in Toronto (Ontario province's capital). And last time I heard, you couldn't rely on them actually having hydrogen. The biggest advantage of EVs is there's already a distribution network that works for most people who own a house. Sure it's not everybody and not every use case, but it's still way better than hydrogen with its 2 unreliable stations.
- _hypx 3y agoThere's basically zero battery swapping stations too. We are trapped in an obsession with charging stations. It will be remembered as a form of tunnel vision. Hydrogen stations will exist in vast numbers once this tunnel vision breaks down.
