There does seem to be a general misunderstanding of what Peer-Reviewed means among the public. At my kids highschool there was an AIM program for harder classes for the academically inclined. A parent's kid didn't get in, they decided to write up a piece on how AIM should be killed. They showed it to another parent, called it peered reviewed, and submitted it to the school. The school at a meeting after they turned off the cameras decided to fire the lead teach and kill the program. All without any discussion, because it was a "peer reviewed" "paper".
