I agree that chatGPT is a great product in itself. But does they mean turn end state of this round of AI is going to be that we have conversational assistants?

I agree that chatGPT is a great product in itself. But does they mean turn end state of this round of AI is going to be that we have conversational assistants? It's certainly been represented as more than this, which is why I'm curious what actual further applications have come about.
