I can't imagine ever moving to San Francisco or NYC for even twice the pay to be honest. Having to endure the NYC subway for another miserable summer is a big fat no from me (especially with how bad they've gotten in recent years) and with congestion pricing in place, it's pretty much a dead issue. SF is completely insane with real estate prices, so that's a big fat no as well. San Jose sucks, so no.
Remote First and Remote Forward is the future. Occasional onsite FTW. Do work-resorts/retreats for a week a few times a year, you're good. Have the robots do the manual labor, and if they're still not good enough, well this is YCombinator's Hacker News after all, get to building and launch yesterday.
