Yes. I think Masnick has pretty much nailed it here. This is the TLDR.
Why anyone building a user generated content business should have a plan about how to moderate later, you need something but to also know that it will become increasingly less of a good fit for your moderation needs as you scale that business.
Why twitter appears to be repeating painful early false steps regarding moderation with new Leadership.
Why Facebook has failed to protect users from abuse in smaller non English speaking countries around the world…
And why it just won’t work in general because no two people agree perfectly and the more people you have the more disagreement you can and will find. It’s a fools errand to think there is a universally acceptable consensus among all humans. There are plenty of people that disagree over English language saccharine children’s TV programming claiming it’s not good for their development or it’s teaching them “woke nonsense” about universal respect and equality of all people, and it’s about the closest we’ve got universally accepted “safe for everyone” based on decades of product refinement in the face of government and parental scrutiny by governments across multiple countries countries continents and even generations for some of the longest running shows.
