Wave of airplane mechanic retirements is leaving some US industries desperate
- sounds 3y agoIt's never "mechanic retires, no one available to fix planes." It's "we slashed benefits, we flat-lined the pay, the hours are a nightmare, and then when no one wants the job, obviously blame the retirees." Capital often attempts to distort the market with a press release about "no one to do this job." Welcome to capitalism, capitalists.
- vba616 3y ago>Welcome to capitalism, capitalists. This is a little strained. Government agencies are having basically the same discussions right now. It's a fact that the last few years caused many retirements to be pulled forward, leading to a crunch to fill vacancies everywhere.
- aposticknit 3y agoYou'd think there was time to prepare for this since retirement doesen't just suddenly appear like a leg injury
- otoburb 3y agoThe article didn't mention that the US labour participation rate[1] has been steadily trending downwards since the early 2000s which exacerbates the problem further. [1] https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CIVPART https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CIVPART
