How good or evil are you when gaming?
- hirundo 3y agoThis is where games excel as a medium of artistic expression. They can get you invested in these decisions in a way that can let you see both sides. I remember the moment in Mass Effect where you're called upon to either exterminate an intelligent species ... or not. You've just spend hours fighting genocidal attacks by the same species, so it's not an easy choice. You could read the same story in a novel, but without the same impact because it wasn't you making the decisions leading up to that. Now I'm playing Kenshi, and to upgrade the army of super soldiers I've been building for over a hundred hours, the next obvious step is to painfully rip off their arms and legs and install improved robotic versions. I recruited each soldier and spend hours training each, so it's a little fraught to irreversibly tear their limbs off. Games are a great place for morality plays, because they can let you explore the grey areas from all sides in a way that can earn sympathy for the devil.
- alex_lav 3y agoFor games where decisions really matter (ie you get multiple endings based on good/bad choices), I usually do two play throughs (if the game is good). One morally good and one morally extremely evil. I try to RP them, as in, I avoid thinking about what I, the real person, would do but instead focus on what the character would do. I think it adds a layer of fun to the game that isn't even really in the game.
