IMO using GPU's for gaming has been the single largest waste of computational progress over the past two decades. Literally facilitating someone to waste time toiling away at a fake challenge with pretty 3d visuals.
- delta_p_delta_x 3y ago> waste time I guess if people aren't working 24/7, they're all wasting time. While we're at it, let's also go and burn down all the art museums, take sledgehammers to all the sculptures, burn all fiction novels, rip up all the film reels, and so on. To step away from the hyperbole and actually discredit your opinion... > using GPU's for gaming has been the single largest waste of computational progress GPUs were invented and improved precisely because of video games. The pursuit for ever improving real-time visual fidelity at ever-increasing frame-rates and ever-increasing resolution has immediately facilitated and necessitated the immense performance of GPUs today. Video games and game engines are still amongst the most complex suites of software written today, perhaps only bested by the OSs they run on.
