Economists Got Africa’s Aids Epidemic Wrong
- xhkkffbf 3y agoThere was a book that I can't remember that suggested the entire epidemic in Africa was overblown. It wasn't denying it, just saying that some of the estimates of 20,30 or 40% infection rate were wildly overstated. Now that it's been a few years, I wonder if anyone has fact checked the book. (Sooorry. I don't recall the title.)
- imagainstit 3y agoThis was a common theme for HIV/AIDS denialists and was actively embraced in South Africa with tragic results. South Africa pursued an anti-treatment strategy for a period: https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/magazine/spr09aids/ https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/magazine/spr09aids/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV/AIDS_denialism_in_South_Africa https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV/AIDS_denialism_in_South_... Obviously I can't tell you if a partially remembered book with no name and no date has ever been fact checked.
