What fraction of their first quarter profit should Amazon pay for the alleged activities at Ring, all but one of which was before Amazon bought them? The last being within three months of acquisition.
- ok_dad 3y agoThey bought it with the liabilities, so suggesting Amazon isn’t responsible for those liabilities now is preposterous. The fine here should be some large percentage or all of the revenue Ring made during the time they had bad security practices.

This is a fair take but I would argue that Amazon shouldn't be anymore liable the ring would be if it was never acquired. What I mean is amazon shouldn't be on the hook for more in fines just because the greater business made 3.2B in profit. I can't believe I am actually defending Amazon here, but I am trying to look at it objectively.
- ok_dad 3y agoAgree, I even think it’s fair if this happened after to just stick a fine to them according to Ring revenue, but the current fine is a pittance, IMO.
