For educational reasons I'm going to suggest Usenet. Sure you have to pay $ for a few providers to obtain most 100% but it has everything that torrent has if not more. Not as convenient but you do get decent download speeds and if parts are broken you can normally repair with PAR2 which itself is alien tech.
