Why entirely? You don't allow the possibility that AI can genuinely present more severe or urgent problems if left unaddressed in a timely fashion?
I think all will agree that there are other problems in this world, but dismissing a newly present problem just because your hands already seem full doesn't look like a best approach. Ignoring and disregarding new achievements of technical progress has enough of a history, and in some important cases those ignorant were clearly proven wrong. Can't we both walk the AI problems and chew the gum of existing issues around us?
- cyanydeez 3y agoThe short term impacts are ignored because modern business is supposed to improve society. Most AI in public display is geared to cause further wealth inequality. So focusing on the existential is a marketing gimmick. Like, "don't worry, we just need to fix the heat death of the universe problem."
