There are lots of things people predicted, most of which did not come true (take a look at any future predicting writings, the serious ones: pop "explosion", starvation, social collapse, etc). We can only act now on what we know today. We cannot act retroactively. You can’t go around and say someone sometime somewhere said something and use that as evidence. Just as in law you can’t take a confession as sole proof of something. It has to be independently confirmed.
