I'm guessing that the Onedrive and FIFA examples can be put down to metrics driving -
Onedrive: to onboard more new users ie. increase potential inflows you make the UI simpler on landing. Thus the rest of the essential functionality has to be hidden away.
FIFA: every time a lootbox is opened the player gets a dopamine hit, so make sure they get lots of hits rather than one.
I don't agree with the metric gaming going on here as if everyone does this, you rapidly tire your users to the point of jadedness. It's as-per evolution, an arms race on both user's and UXers sides, and one of the darker sides of capitalism. Should we roll out the obligatory https://xkcd.com/927/ https://xkcd.com/927/ ie. have a single unifying UX/OpenAPI standard across platforms, in order to combat this?
Unfortunately OSes don't really expose an OS-wide event stream to hook UX into, which is another alternative. So... I guess fix the functionality first, then UX?
