Second the images are not from the top, but at 45 degree angle. By that one can also see the numbers/dots on the side of the dices. Distinguishing numbers/dots which are on the side from ones on the top is pretty hard. The algorithm needs to have an understanding of the 3d structure of the dices in the image.
