Show HN: I built a native macOS app that puts ChatGPT a keyboard shortcut away
I recently built this little macOS app that makes ChatGPT feel like a native part of the OS. It runs in the background and is invoked by a keyboard shortcut that overlays a small window on top of whatever you're doing (even fullscreen video). I think it's super convenient and I use it many times every day for quick and spontaneous interactions.
The app is totally free but requires an API key, so it can talk directly to the OpenAI API. There is no backend acting as middleman between the app and ChatGPT, so all use of the app is 100% private.
Give it a try if you're interested, and I'd love to know what you think. I recently updated the app to support syntax highlighting for more than a dozen languages.
- senttoschool 3y agoI'm curious. Doesn't the API key cost money for each inquiry? If you have a $20 ChatGPT subscription, wouldn't it better to just wait for the official app?
- unvrslexplnr 3y agoYup, it costs $0.002/1K tokens or about $1 for 1250 pages of text (much more than most people will use in the course of many months). I'm aware that this is a deal breaker for some people, but I personally find the costs to be negligible compared with the convenience of using the app.
