People removing standardized exams in favor of “holistic” measures in the name of equality are wolves in sheep clothing…they end up widening inequality because those subjective measures overwhelmingly favor richer folk. Personally, I think that was their intention since the beginning. It’s true that standardized exams aren’t a perfect way to measure abilities, but in a system with tens of thousands of students, it’s the fairest way. Many of these people will voice their support for tax-funded college education (which is good), but they forget how countries where this happens overwhelmingly favor standardized, objective measures…not some “holistic” approach that’s code for “richer people with more interesting experiences”.
