While we're on the subject of whether animals dream at all or not, I'm here wondering if, considering things like aphantasia, there are humans who don't dream.

- swayvil 3y agoI know 2 women who say they never dream. Both are very intellectually focused and spend their days in intense intellectual activity (engineer, accountant). Weed makes me not dream. When I do more Vipassana meditation I recall my dreams a lot. Some lucid.
- glandium 3y agoHow do you know weed makes you not dream rather than not remembering you did?
- flutas 3y agoAnecdata for myself. Weed makes me much more still during the night, and suppresses my sleep talking entirely. So either it makes me not dream or it has other effects going on making me a more still sleeper.
- swayvil 3y agoI'm using both terms as equivalent to "I don't recall dreaming". The reality, I hesitate to speculate.
- scatters 3y agoComplete aphantasic here. I dream, but not in images or any kind of sensory experience.
- lostlogin 3y ago> Aphantasia For those like me: The inability to create mental imagery. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphantasia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphantasia
- glandium 3y agoI'm curious. What sort of experience is it then?
- scatters 3y agoIt's what's left when you remove any sensory experience. Things happen, and when I wake I have the short term memory that they happened. You could describe it as narrative, but that would imply that there's language involved, and it's more abstract than that.
