What if both of you are right? Or wrong for that matter? Everybody acknowledges that some people got hurt pretty badly by policies applied, and those people are in millions on global scale. Clearly you are one of them.
Yet we saved by some estimates lower tens of millions of lives, and we tested en masse extremely promising new way of administering cures/vaccinations. Attacking that takes more than just some emotional outbursts, better come with some cold hard facts. Ie I don't know a single person who doesn't have in circle of family or close friends somebody who passed away directly due to covid.
- zmgsabst 3y agoGo ahead and post a study that says we saved tens of millions. Not one intervention has been shown to reduce mortality by 50% across the general population — you’re making facts up to deny the harms caused.
- tapland 3y agoNo but we hsve things like Sweden with a demographic and social systems very similar to its neighbors (norway, denmark, finland) ending up with 2x the mortality of said neighbors by choosing milder interventions.
- the_third_wave 3y agoSweden had a higher mortality at the start but ended up with the lowest excess mortality in Europe starting January 2021 [1]. The country had the lowest excess mortality overall during the SARS2 years 2020-2022 [1]. - tapland 3y agoYes. The total I quoted was on all covid deaths. If one is fine with killing twice the number of people if it happens fast, I guess you are correct.
- faffffaf 3y ago>who doesn't have in circle of family or close friends somebody who passed away directly due to covid. Maybe true, but in every case that I know of, it's some variation of "Mavis died of Covid in the end, but she'd been in poor health for years and it wasn't a surprise to anyone."
