I Loved Graduate School
- jleyank 3y ago(2016) I liked grad school, although it was way more time consuming than uni partially because the work was non-textbook and partially because I had to handle recitations and labs for my support. It wasn't so "fun" but then I was older and the stakes were higher. Uni was "fun". Yeah, there were courses and studying but that wasn't so hard outside of memorization courses. Science and math seem to be both algorithmic and memory-based and man, the latter did me in. Yet I can remember esoteric, quite irrelevant hacking details... Guess it's an interest thing. I also think I was way better connected in uni - not trapped in a department and sitting on the other side of a desk or lab table. There were 1000's and 1000's of people of similar age, interests and free-time at uni and it was the first time to be out of the control of others. This (greatly) predated the net, so maybe that's why I enjoyed the F2F activities? Uni was in a larger, more diverse city and at a more interesting time for the music biz, which also helped.
