Ask HN: What would you do with 5000 unique QR code stickers?
I have this domain inqry.com.
Ten years ago I thought I would build a local music community. My plan was to put QR stickers with interesting information all over my city. People would scan these and then get information on local events.
To build this, I wrote a little perl (!) program that generated 6000 unique QR codes, created a PDF with these 6000 codes, and then sent that to a local printer that printed them out as stickers and cut them up.
Each sticker has a unique QR code which points to a unique inqry.com URL (inqry.com/bd34dac1, for example).
I never really got traction with that idea. :)
A few years ago, I thought: what about a local cryptocurrency, where to collect the currency you would need to physically scan in a particular order a set of the QR codes, which would then prove you were local, and then give you currency. A way to make cryptocurrency tied to a local area. I'm SURE the HN crowd will love this idea.
That idea never got traction either (well, I never did anything other than think of it).
What are some better ideas? What would you do?
