Renate Loll Blends Universes to Unlock Quantum Gravity
- auntienomen 3y agoIs CDT developed enough that one can calculate black hole entropy? I'm guessing not yet, but wouldn't mind being corrected...
- causality0 3y agoThe correct title is The Physicist Who Glues Together Universes. Editorializing the title is not only against the HN guidelines, but here it gives the false impression the article is focused on a scientific development, when in reality it's half biography and half interview.
- Sniffnoy 3y agoI mean, this title is copied straight from the article's title tags. You can say "hey, be careful to use the proper title of the piece, not whatever's in the title tags", but you can't accuse the poster of having made editorial alterations.
- causality0 3y agoIt's a pattern with these Quanta Magazine profile article submissions. They know nobody wants to read five pages on where Doctor Whats-His-Face got his inspiration to study astrophysics and the difficulties of academia as a one-eared OCD sufferer so the title is always tweaked just a little to conceal the fact it's about a person, not a discovery.
- _Microft 3y agoThe submitted title is the page title (in the HTML sense), isn‘t it? The HN bookmarklet uses these for submissions for example.
- lowbloodsugar 3y ago<head><title>Renate Loll Blends Universes to Unlock Quantum Gravity | Quanta Magazine</title>... vs <h1 class="post__title__title mv025 noe theme__text">The Physicist Who Glues Together Universes</h1> Silly human.
- _Microft 3y agoIt's actually not obvious if one is browsing the web on a mobile device. I had to bookmark the Quanta article and checked the details of the bookmark to be reasonably sure that the HTML doc title is what was submitted here.

- slowmovintarget 3y agoIs anyone else wondering when Loll's CDT, Wolfram's hypergraphs, and Sean Carroll's Mad Dog Everettianism are going to merge into an actual Quantum Gravity theory?
- mikhailfranco 3y ago... the Wolfram Model can be thought of as being an abstract generalization of the so-called "Causal Dynamical Triangulation" approach to quantum gravity developed by Loll, Ambjørn and Jurkiewicz ... Some Relativistic and Gravitational Properties of the Wolfram Model, Jonathan Gorard https://content.wolfram.com/uploads/sites/13/2020/07/29-2-3.pdf https://content.wolfram.com/uploads/sites/13/2020/07/29-2-3.... The Wolfram model also assumes a Many Worlds approach - all possible quantum rewritings take place.
