One day he says AI is frightening and must be regulated, one other day he says I don't want AI regulations...
- jeroenhd 3y ago"It must be regulated according to my ethics" isn't a new stance in the tech world. It's also possible that any calls for reasonable regulation were just pandering towards investors. Key FTX people also called for regulation of the crypto market, after all. It projects a willingness to be a good and compliant company, even if they'd wish they themselves wouldn't have to comply.
- m3affan 3y agoExactly this. I am pretty sure he's bluffing, and even if not, by the time they decide to pull their operations, many alternative would be on the market (there are already many).
- 3np 3y agoAltman is the new BF
- supriyo-biswas 3y agoIt’s as if he wants AI regulations that only benefit OpenAI.
- bilbo0s 3y agoIf we can comply, we will, and if we can’t, we’ll cease operating… We will try. But there are technical limits to what’s possible. He didn't say he doesn't want them. He said AIs, for a lot of reasons, may not be able to operate within the confines of potential regulations. For a simple example, they may be trained on work that was not properly licensed in the EU. That's only one compliance challenge in one dimension, but there are a large number of dimensions in which AIs might fall outside the mandated parameters. Obviously people will try, but there are reality based technical limitations.
