Where China is beating the world
- chiefalchemist 3y agoCorrection. China isn't "beating the world". The world (i.e., The West led by the USA) is beating itself. That is, accomplishment is a funtion of priority. China has prioritized such things. On the other hand, the USA & Co continues to be obcessed with 20th Century rooted priorities (as often driven by The MIC, Big Oil and other * Industrial Complexes). For example, while the USA was neck deep in Afghanistan, China was chugging along with other priorities. Twenty years of war can buy you a lot of things (e.g., green energy research). Or not. The USA opted for the latter. That's not China's fault. I don't doubt China has a long term plan, and that it has empire-y aspirations. But China's current lead (?) in these things is more a function of The West choosing not to compete. The public deserves honesty and transparency about the priorities its leaders picked, not more of the false and cliche blame China narrative.
- ZeroGravitas 3y agoComplaining that high speed train links don't pay for themselves with ticket sale profits and that EV makers that are poised to sweep the globe in a massive booming market aren't currently making enough profits exposes exactly why the US failed to achieve these goals. Which the author seems to know and be arguing against, but also still just can't help believing.
