Set up a Dev Drive on Windows 11
- pxc 3y agoOne of the things I've realized in my year-long (and, blessedly, soon to end) return to daily Windows usage is that filesystem access on Windows is unbelievably ass-slow, particularly on corporate endpoints bogged down in a morass of EDR, AV, and God knows what other horseshit hooking into every file access via Windows' filtering mechanisms. My escape hatch from all of this, of course, has been WSL: all the files get to live in a VHD and and operating on them bypasses all of that crap. And now Microsoft has offered a solution for achieving the same thing on the Windows side... using exactly the same mechanism! I can't help but believe this was directly inspired by WSL.
