This certainly jives with my experience. When I have a brief image in a dream of a plausible, everyday thing, I sometimes have difficulty figuring out whether it's a real memory. Recently I dreamed about being in the living room while my partner was taking down the drapes to change them. The next day I was briefly confused why they were still hanging there, until I realized how undefined the memory was - no when, no before or after, just a flash -- ah, I must have dreamed it.
