There are several comments about "oh well, whatever species replaces us will have a new chance".
Unless the cockroaches want to wait 300 million years, they won't have the easy coal and oil reserves to jumpstart them to an 'advanced' civilization.
Which might be a good thing? Maybe some future inhabitants will invent an oil-producing algae because they didn't have an easier option like we did.
- dahwolf 3y agoMy take is that advanced civilization isn't an evolutionary inevitability nor is it of any objectively higher value or importance. Imagine a planet with just grass. One species. It's thriving. Highly successful. Who needs "intelligence"?
