The system isn't built for long term stability, it's built to maximize short term gains. Wall St. has long since figured out there are no consequences to causing economic instability for short term gains because the government will just bail them out with our tax money anyways and they still get to keep their ill gotten gains. The consequences of their actions do not affect them and that is the problem.
