I hate separate pages because I lose all the context in the background. More often that not, I find myself needing info from the main page and often have to go back to it. Same thing happens on modals that you can't grab the title bar and drag it around.

That is only a problem on mobile where you can hardly have 2 windows open on the same screen. But then modals suck on mobile too.
