=) plenty of reason to keep win-rar around then.
I also hope wonder how they'll present .tar.gz files in the windows shell. Will you need to open the .gz, then the .tar? Or just one step. The world wonders...
- forgotmypw17 3y agoFor .tar.gz, I would just open it. Unless there's more than one file inside the .gz, which... is that even possible?
- BenjiWiebe 3y agoAfaik, no. That's why you use tar inside of gz, so you can have multiple files.
- paddim8 3y agoWhy would you want to create rar archives tho?
- Mountain_Skies 3y agoPerhaps they need to send archives to an automated process that only accepts rar files and no one wants to touch it to support other formats because the guy who built left the company decades ago and the system has quietly just worked without trouble over all those years.
- awiesenhofer 3y agoMultivolume archives, recovery options and repair features, encryption... Sooo many possible reasons to choose rar over other formats.
- sixothree 3y agoWinRAR has one feature I wish 7-Zip would add. When selecting multiple zips, you can extract each to their own subfolder with a single command. I miss that more than anything.
- jetbalsa 3y agoYou can do that with 7Zip as well, its a part of the context menu for that.
- BizarroLand 3y agoYep, it even names the folders after the zip files' name. Right click, 7zip > "Extract to /*"
- sixothree 3y agoThis must be new! I've got my context menu customized everywhere I go might be why I missed it.
- vitorgrs 3y agoMicrosoft says it will support rar creation through... https://imgur.com/a/JiSd168 https://imgur.com/a/JiSd168
