I remember making WADs when I was a kid. The whole modding experience was amazing for early games. When I look at the locked down ecosystems that our kids are playing in, it hurts a little.
I bought Minecraft on Nintendo Switch to play with my step-kids since they have an XBox and it was so soulless compared to the one I bought back in 2012. The mods I used to download and mess with for free were now paid for in the Microsoft Store. In addition, they spent so much time locking down the game it was barely playable. I remember applying for a mod license and they allowed me to download the entire source code for the game... I was just blown away.
